A Health Visitor is a qualified nurse who has had extra training to become
a Health Visitor. Part of this role is to help families, especially those with
babies and young children to avoid illness and keep healthy. We also support
parents if they have concerns about their child's growth or development.
Immunisation is a way of protecting ourselves from serious disease. Once we
have been immunised, our bodies are more able to fight those diseases if we
come into contact with them.
You will be sent an appointment for your child's first immunisations at 2
months old. Further doses are given at around 3 and 4 months old, then at age
4 years and between 13 - 18 years old. The Health Visitors at Oldfield Surgery
run a special immunisation session for pre-school children on Monday
afternoons, but can make alternative arrangements if necessary.
